Let go of hopes and waits, all you have is now

Do you sometimes wonder how much you could have already done if you had simply moved towards the goal instead of waiting for things to settle down?

I, for example, waited all day for my will to write an assignment. She didn’t come to me. I watched Friends on Fox all day. I’m not saying Friends are bad because they’re not, they’re great, but wouldn’t it be better if I just gritted my teeth, wrote homework and did all the chores and then carefree enjoyed the series and movies?

That’s a banal example now, but you get the point.

We are always waiting for something instead of taking advantage of the moments we have.

We wait for the will to do our daily tasks, we wait for the inspiration for creativity, we wait for the perfect opportunity to apply for that dream job, we wait for the perfect moment to ask that handsome guy for a date, we wait for this damn pandemic to pass so we can continue to live. Emphasis on the damned.

We are constantly waiting for some devil.

If it’s not the last minute and if we’re not in total panic – that’s not it. We’re waiting a little longer.

Then comes that last hour, that panic state and look at the miracles – we fight over our heads because we didn’t start earlier. What we really are is idiots.

Okay, you need to take time for yourself. I think regeneration is just as important as progress, but it would be said that too much bread is not good either. No. Missed it. It is said that what is too much is not good with bread either. That’s right.

We have 24 hours a day. Let’s use them the best we know because now is all we have.

It is not worth going back to the past because it is a finished state. Whatever it was, it was. What we broke up, we broke up. What we screwed up, we screwed up. Let’s learn a lesson and move on. There is no other.

There is no point in fearing the future because it is something that has not yet happened. We don’t know what it brings us. I mean, who could have guessed we’d find ourselves in shit like this ?!

I honestly find this awful. On the one hand, it’s great that I have a little peace, but I’ve had a little peace since last March and I’m tired of peace. Give me back the chaos, please. I literally function better in chaos and as long as I have a bunch of commitments and agreements. This way I constantly think I have enough time for everything and in the end I don’t do anything. I don’t even know what day it is anymore.

And I know there are people with much bigger problems right now, but I’m in PMS and I had to get it out of me.

Let’s move on.

We don’t know what it brings us and there are definitely things we can’t influence. Especially now. But there are those we can do, and the only way to do that is to start working for a better tomorrow today.

The longer we procrastinate, the longer we wait - the longer it will take us to get to the desired point.

I’ll say it again. Imagine what you could have done during the time you spent waiting and hoping. You could already be halfway there. Maybe you could have been on target already. Maybe you could have already done all the daily tasks, created and been creative, had a dream job and had a drink with that handsome guy you like.

You can still, but you have to start. Better sooner than later.

Even if it all falls apart, at least you know what you’re up to and at least you know you’ve done your best to achieve what you want to achieve. Sometimes that is a big enough pleasure.

So don’t be afraid to start and don’t be afraid of bad experiences and mistakes because it doesn’t go without them. Mistake by mistake and here you are at the top with even more wit, knowledge and experience.

If you ask me – it’s much scarier to look back in 10, 20, 30 years and fight over your head because you haven’t at least tried, to wonder what would happen if it happened.

So let go of hopes and waits, all you have is now. Use it.

  1. I absolutely LOVE this post. And I totally agree. There is no right or wrong time for anything. When I started my life coaching in December, I was umming and ahh’ing about whether it was the “right” time, considering we were in lockdown etc. My coach said there will never be a perfect time for anything in your life and that’s really stayed with me. Mindfulness and focusing on today and NOW is so important x

  2. I am the worst at waiting until the last minute to do something then having a panic that I’ve not done it sooner and wish I had. So this really spoke to me. Thanks for sharing. It was really encouraging to read.

  3. I totally agree with this. I had so many ideas going into lockdown in March last year and ended up doing none of them because overwhelm just made me end up wasting my time, instead of being productive this year. It’s definitely something that I’ve come into 2021 hoping to do better this year, and so far I’m succeeding! So far, I’m much happier for it!

  4. I love this! It is so easy to put things off until later, especially if Friends is on. Unfortunately, that can also lead to wasted time and missed opportunities. “So let go of hopes and waits, all you have is now. Use it,” is going up on my mirror so I can be reminded everyday to make the most of the time I have. Thanks for sharing!

  5. This was so good and so true. And it really described me for many years. It becomes your comfort zone. I’ve missed out on so many things because I thought that way and was waiting for things to happen instead of helping it along. It’s like a form of settling. It’s only recently that I began to stop waiting and started doing. Thank you so much for sharing!

  6. Yes! I am in love with everything about this post. Far too often you hear people say that they are waiting for the ‘right time’ to take that big step – but will there ever be a right time? Even if you fall on your face, at least you can say that you tried. Nothing is worse than living in a state of ‘what if’, always wondering and never knowing what you could have done if you had just stepped out of your comfort zone..
